Elon Musk will give $100M to the company who can create the best carbon capture technology

Elon Musk said in a Tweet, that he will give $100 million to whoever creates the best carbon-capture technology, so let me tell you about just one of them.

LanzaTech is a carbon-capture biotech company that turn’s pollution from factories into fuel, food, chemicals, and other products. It recycles carbon emissions to make fuels from carbon-rich waste gases emitted from manufacturing facilities. It recently partnered with Virgin Atlantic to use its jet fuel on a flight from Florida to the U.K. In October, it announced a partnership to create packaging for Loreal, and in December LanzaTech announced it is creating Omega-3 fatty acids using industrial waste from IndianOil refineries. Earlier this week, LanzaJet, a subsidiary of LanzaTech, announced a new consortium in Europe to create an alcohol-to-jet plant. And LanzaTech was one of the initial supporters of the sustainability charter recently announced by the Prince of Wales.

LanzaTech’s carbon capture facilities have already produced real results at scale. In fact, they crafted their own beer to celebrate 150 days of continuous production converting industrial waste gas into ethanol.

Here is a recent TED Talk by Dr. Jennifer Holmgren, LanzaTech CEO.
