Sole U.S. finalist for Earthshot Prize turns carbon pollution into everything from party dresses to jet fuel

HRH Prince William and Kate were in Boston this week to announce the winners of The Earthshot Prize, which LanzaTech was the only company from the US to be a finalist for. The event looked amazing, with coverage in People, NBC Boston, and Town & Country. Our client also appeared on the morning of the event on CBS National News and on Good Morning America. Fermata Energy also secured this great bylined article in Fleet Management Weekly about the value of V2X technology and EVs.

This week, Brookfield announced a USD 1B investment in LanzaTech with articles in Reuters, Climatewire, and BusinessGreen in the United Kingdom. We also announced a partnership between LanzaTech, Yale, Northwestern University, and NREL to establish a new center for multi-scale synthetic biology. We also helped launch the new FE-20 Bidirectional V2X Charger for Fermata Energy in New York City this week, changing how we think about charging infrastructure for EVS. This weekend also brings Artoberfest to Ann Arbor, Michigan. With the University of Michigan Wolverines away playing the University of Indiana, Saturday can become very lonely in Ann Arbor. The A2 Artoberfest, produced by the Guild of Artists and Artisans, brings people back into the streets of downtown Ann Arbor for craft beer and fine art. Just another busy week for us at North Coast Strategies.

With a few big announcements this week in California between the Department of Energy and Fermata Energy Energy, in addition to stories mentioning LanzaTech in CNN, Forbes (Japan), and C&EN, Business Insider, not to mention a major event for the Guild of Artists & Artisans over Mother’s Day weekend and an op-ed I penned for The Detroit News about mental health, it is all here in our media clips from the past week

We had another busy week working on behalf of our clients. Today, the U.S. Secretary of Energy (and former Governor of Michigan) Jennifer Granholm, along with U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff (D-Georgia) visited LanzaTech and LanzaJet’s biorefinery in Soperton, Georgia. We worked with the Department of Energy and Senator Ossoff’s office to coordinate that visit. This weekend the Guild of Artists and Artisans is hosting their Annual Artoberfest, and we were able to develop content for the Washtenaw Area Apartment Association.

Here is just a sample of news we generated this week in publications from New Zealand to Spain and back to the United States.

Fighting Climate Change, One Bite At A Time

Companies throughout the world are grappling with how or if they should address issues around climate change. With principles in place after the COP24 climate talks concluded last week however government leaders must work build partnerships with the business community to address climate change. This is an issue that will be on the agenda at Davos next month.

I am not sure the last time you ate at Max Burgers (130 restaurants in Sweden, Findland, Denmark, Poland, Egypt, & the U.A.E.), but recently the fast-food chain with 130 restaurants in Europe and The Middle East launched a climate positive menu to help prevent further damage caused by climate change.

They do this by (1) measuring their product emissions from the farmers' land to the guests' hand, (2) reducing their emissions, and (3) capturing at least 110% of their emissions by planting trees.

They take their role seriously in not only reducing their carbon footprint but they are covering up to reverse the damage caused by the agricultural and fast-food industry. In addition to their climate positive menu, Max Burgers :

  • Lists the impact each item has on the climate on their menu.

  • Has set a goal that, by 2022, half of all meals it sells worldwide will be made of foods other than beef.

  • Has a significant menu of plant-based and lacto-ovo options,

European companies are more aggressive around climate change and offer a window as to what is to come for North American chains. If you are a journalist interested in talking about how companies are making significant changes in their business operations to reduce the impact they are having on the environment, feel free to direct message me so that I can connect you to the executives at MAX Burgers and other corporate leaders making a difference in sustainability.
