Sole U.S. finalist for Earthshot Prize turns carbon pollution into everything from party dresses to jet fuel

HRH Prince William and Kate were in Boston this week to announce the winners of The Earthshot Prize, which LanzaTech was the only company from the US to be a finalist for. The event looked amazing, with coverage in People, NBC Boston, and Town & Country. Our client also appeared on the morning of the event on CBS National News and on Good Morning America. Fermata Energy also secured this great bylined article in Fleet Management Weekly about the value of V2X technology and EVs.

This week we returned to the studio with television interviews at the FOX and ABC affiliates in Detroit to promote the Guild of Art and Artisans’ final art fair of the season. Building on the success of The Earthshot Prize announcement, we also secured additional coverage in The Chicago Tribune and AXIOS. We had a press event in Germany with BASF, and we announced a $3.5M investment in our client, Wave Engine Corp., a next-gen high-performance propulsion sys developer. & aerial vehicles in their second seed round of investment.

The Earthshot

I am excited to announce that our client LanzaTech, a carbon capture and transformation company, was named a finalist for the Earthshot Prize this morning by HRH Prince William and The Royal Foundation. As the only company in the United States, they are part of an amazing cohort of companies working on solving our world's greatest challenges around climate change.

The Prize takes inspiration from President John F. Kennedy’s ‘Moonshot,’ which united millions of people around an organizing goal to put a man on the moon and catalyzed the development of new technology in the 1960s.

As Prince William said in announcing the finalists,

“The innovators, leaders, and visionaries that make up our 2022 Earthshot Finalists prove there are many reasons to be optimistic about the future of our planet. They are directing their time, energy, and talent towards bold solutions with the power to not only solve our planet’s greatest environmental challenges, but to create healthier, more prosperous, and more sustainable communities for generations to come."

I am honored to help share the news on LanzaTech's behalf and join this impressive group in repairing and regenerating our world. With appearances this morning on The Today Show and Good Morning America, with articles in People, Town & Country, and Vanity Fair, today was an important day for our clients,

Congratulations to all the finalists.

For our other clients, we announced new leadership and were able to share additional stories on the launch of a new V2X charger. You can find links to all those stories below.

This week the media continued to share stories about LanzaTech’s collaboration with On, Coty, Givaudan, and Coty among others. I am grateful to Amy Harder, executive editor of Cipher by Breakthrough Energy, for including LanzaTech in her one-year anniversary story favorites. LanzaJet also has a number of great projects and partnerships it is announcing and we are grateful to Robert Downey, Jr. and his Footprint Coalition for mentioning LanzaJet in a recent newsletter. News about Fermata Energy’s partnership with Nissan continues to permeate the headlines and we want to thank Alexa St. John from Business Insider for continuing to share their story.

Last week, Vogue Brazil and Business Insider Espana shared news about Zara’s recent dress launch made from carbon emissions. There was also news about additional research by LanzaTech and one of our partners at Fermata Energy. We also want to wish our client, the Guild of Artists and Artisans good luck this week as thousands of artists set up shop in Ann Arbor for The Ann Arbor Art Fair. Here are a few more media clips from the past week.

Game changer!

“Game Changer!” That’s how the media is describing LanzaTech’s partnership with Danone with coverage in Europe and The Americas. Leading up to a holiday weekend in the U.S., a holiday in the middle of the week in France, and other national holidays in Europe with some of the same press you are trying to reach who are Switzerland covering Davos 2022, we were able to share some of the amazing innovation and partnerships from our clients. This week we also represented our client, Fermata Energy at the Global Fleet Expo and continue to advance the reputation of all the companies we work with. To those honoring Memorial Day in the US and Ascension Day in Europe, let’s remember the sacrifices people made to get us here. And let us never forget the innocent children of Uvalde, Texas.

Global media for our clients and the impact they make around the world

This week, we announced the 2022 schedule for the Guild of Artists & Artisans in Michigan and Ohio. It is great to be able to make announcements about major events, and these are always outside. We also announced the largest sustainable aviation fuel plant in North America will be built outside of Chicago between LanzaJet and Marquis Sustainable Aviation Fuel that resulted in coverage in North America and Europe in mainstream media, such as Crain’s Chicago Business and trade publications such as Aviation International News and Biofuels Digest. The media continues to share news about our clients and their work globally, with coverage in Green Biz, Metro-UK, CNN, and CNBC among others. Finally, congratulations to our past client South Pole on Salesforce’s investment in their company. Below please find additional media from this past week.

Running on Pollution - Swiss sports brand On to Make the Sole of Their Shoes From Carbon Waste

Swiss sports brand On is leading a supply chain coalition to reshape carbon waste into running shoes, cooperating with LanzaTech and Borealis. Today, On is announcing CleanCloud™ – a new high-performance foam for running shoes, created using carbon emissions as a raw material. With CleanCloud™, On is making carbon emissions the starting point for creating EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) foam – a material they are engineering into high-performance cushioning for running shoes. There’s also the potential to use it in other parts of the shoe, and other products, in the future. You can find a copy of the news release online here. This announcement with On follows LanzaTech’s launch earlier this week over a collaboration with SAS, Vattenfall, and Shell to produce sustainable aviation fuel in Sweden. Last week, a product launch with Unilever on a new dish soap now available in stores made from waste emissions. As world leaders continue to negotiate about addressing our climate crises, companies like On, LanzaTech, and Borealis are working to avoid a climate catastrophe in changing the supply chain and getting new sustainable products into the marketplace.

Media Coverage From the Past Week (October 1, 2021)

We had another busy week working on behalf of our clients. Today, the U.S. Secretary of Energy (and former Governor of Michigan) Jennifer Granholm, along with U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff (D-Georgia) visited LanzaTech and LanzaJet’s biorefinery in Soperton, Georgia. We worked with the Department of Energy and Senator Ossoff’s office to coordinate that visit. This weekend the Guild of Artists and Artisans is hosting their Annual Artoberfest, and we were able to develop content for the Washtenaw Area Apartment Association.
